In Japanese culture, the word 儚い, translated as ephemeral, fleeing, is often used during the Spring cherry blossom season. Inspired by cherry blossom's distinctively short lifespan, the camera plays the role of a mechanical executor to deteriorate and wilt the bloom by photographing and re-photographing a one-minute digital video of cherry blossoms swaying in a breezy morning over 30 times. The cherry blossom imagery is thus preserved, yet at the same time deconstructed and degenerated. 儚い investigates the seemingly rigid dichotomies of life/death and eternal/ephemeral.
